Springvalley Middle School has two Indigenous Advocates: Ms. Mranda Vrtar and Ms. Jaime Kimmitt.
The role of the Advocate is to provide cultural, social, emotional and academic support.
Throughout the year Mranda and Jaime offer or assist students and teachers with diverse programs, clubs and events such as:
- Homework clubs
- Traditional hand drumming, fancy shawl dancing
- Acting/performing legends
- Indigenous Family Fun Nights
- Traditional foods/art presentations
- Acknowledging/attending National Indigenous holidays and traditional events
- Provide class presentations or connect the teacher and students with an appropriate presenter
- Assisting with Gardening enrichment (with an Okanagan component)
